Oakland Thrives brings together the Oakland top decision-makers in the areas of health, wealth, education, safety, and housing to collaborate and push for a healthier Oakland.
We cultivate and amplify cross-sector Oakland-based initiatives working to change the odds for our children, families, and communities—fostering equity that will last generations.

Collective Impact
We believe in collective action and impact. Together, we can:
- Align and work toward common visions & agendas for change
- Create shared plans of action that center on high-priority community needs & focused outcomes
- Coordinate our efforts (across silos) and maximize resources, investments, and outcomes
- Thoughtfully monitor how we do this work (our process) in communities and hold ourselves accountable to continuously improve and advance change (our outcomes).
Equity Lens
As a result of long-standing systemic & structural inequities, all Oakland children and families do not have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. We work together with system and community partners to identify and address systemic barriers & gaps. Applying an equity lens, we:
- Focus on meeting the needs of children, families, and communities who are most acutely impacted and unjustly excluded, marginalized, or under-served
- Work to improve a broad range of conditions and systems that impact the lives and outcomes of Oakland children & families, including income, employment, housing, early childhood, education, healthcare, and public safety
- Identify and create opportunities to meaningfully engage those most impacted by inequities in program, policy, and system decisions as well as solutions.
